Minecraft Education and Homeschooling
At My Homeschool Village, we understand that setting up Minecraft Education can be a bit tricky, but it’s worth it! If you’re ready to dive into the fun and educational world of Minecraft with your kids, we’ve got all the instructions to get you started, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.
Setting Up Minecraft Education
Minecraft Education is a fantastic tool for collaborative learning, and it’s different from the regular Minecraft you may already be familiar with. The Minecraft Education Edition has specific features that make it ideal for homeschooling. However, getting it up and running can take a bit of patience.
- Download the App: You’ll need to download Minecraft Education on your computer. Unlike regular Minecraft, this version has a few extra steps to ensure your kids’ safety.
- Verification Process: Minecraft Education requires additional verifications, such as scanning a QR code with your phone. While this might feel tedious, it’s part of the process that keeps our kids safe online.
Once you’ve completed the setup, you’ll have an icon on your computer for easy access. Just click, log in, and you’re ready to go!

Joining the Co-op Classes
Once Minecraft Education is set up, it’s time to jump into the fun part: joining the co-op classes! Our co-op classes are a great way for kids to bond while learning, and we’ve made it easy to join in.
- Zoom and Minecraft: To participate in co-op classes, your child will need access to Zoom and Minecraft Education at the same time. Some computers struggle to run both, so we recommend using a separate device for Zoom (like a phone or tablet) if needed.
- Daily Codes: Each class starts with a new code that grants access to the Minecraft world for the day. This system keeps your kids safe and ensures that only participants from the class can join the world.
Our kids love these co-op sessions! They’re not only playing but also learning through interactive lessons in Minecraft. The friendships they build here are special, and it’s amazing to see kids who might not get along on a playground bond over a shared love for Minecraft.

Troubleshooting Tips
If you encounter any issues, don’t worry! Here are a few common problems and solutions:
- Zoom and Minecraft Education Together: If your computer struggles to run both programs, try using a different device for Zoom. A tablet or phone often works well for this.
- Minecraft Updates: Ensure that Minecraft Education is up-to-date. Sometimes, you might need to update your computer or the app for everything to run smoothly.
- Assistance During Class: If you’re struggling with setup during a co-op session, simply ask Ann for help via Zoom. She’ll guide you through the process and make sure your child gets in.
Explore Washington D.C. in Minecraft
One of the coolest features of Minecraft Education is how it integrates real-world learning. We recently introduced a lesson on Washington D.C. where kids can explore famous landmarks such as the Vietnam Memorial, National Gallery of Art, and the White House. They can even write their own bill and try to make it into law at the Capitol!
These immersive activities bring learning to life and make subjects like history and civics more engaging for young learners. Your kids will love building a rose garden at the White House or searching for their favorite quote by Martin Luther King Jr..
